My angels,
When you came into my life, I not only understood, but rather truly embraced a different way of seeing and living life.
I, like millions of others, had fallen into the trap of constant clatter, eight hours of sitting at work, screens, the pursuit of diplomas in subjects that didn’t even interest me, trips where you visit everything and nothing at the same time, agendas with endless tasks, and, among others, the eagerness of cities in search of unstoppable development, which not all of us benefit from nor understand in the same way.
This somewhat chaotic rhythm can become even more accelerated when mothers and fathers buy into modern society and enter the imaginary race that pushes our sons and daughters into adulthood. Inexplicably, we go from wishing and dreaming for them with all our hearts to wanting them to be independent. We are in an uncontrollable rush to get them to sleep, eat, write, read, dress, and bathe themselves.
And in that race, we miss the most important thing. We miss what shapes, transforms, and fills us with life: the smallest and simplest moments. Those that seem insignificant and end up being the most important. Those that will never come back and give us goose bumps. Those that are marked like a permanent tattoo. A spontaneous and long hug, a bath in the tub listening to stories from another planet, reading the same book every night, a morning of cuddles, a sleepless night, an afternoon of cooking, the conversations at the table and, of course, a sudden “I love you”.
Thank you for giving me back my presence, Mariposas. I’m convinced that if we all transform ourselves, we can change the world. However, just like the Little Prince warned us, we adults are slow and incomprehensible. So, for now, you go and change it.
I love you,
Mamá
